After Impact

A planetary trilogy
(work in progress)

prologue

Before Impact:  When the Earth was Whole

This brief tale

of when the EARTH was whole

like the flash of light fore thunder rolled

does end in darkness before we knew

the force of TRUTH that light revealed

and from that force this story does unfold

of worlds born new and histories yet untold

There was a time when all was GOOD

or so we’re told

When Planet Earth its rightful place did hold

Around which all of SPACE revolved.

High priests ruled, creating gods at will

Their hatreds ruling people even still.

But humankind was not content

    to tend the land

Or leave their fate to an unseen hand

‘Twas Knowledge that the wise ones craved

While others to the high priests slaved.

‘Twas Knowledge that forged the lines

of Fault that caused the World’s divide

MEN’S rage did from these fault lines rise

as told in timeless books of truths and lies

Like tales of old where poets sang the laurels

of heroes, kings and kinsmen’s quarrels

An epic battle does unfold

that dwarfs the Trojan wars of old

A battle of IDEAS does cause a rift

And divides two worlds both cast adrift.

Between two ideals: Humanity or Divinity

There’s no hope for PEACE for all eternity.

When ancient man looked up

Emerged from barren cave

Into the light of First Moon’s rise

And raised their heads to ponder vastly skies

Their thoughts did reach beyond

all earthly ties

And lacking further sight,

‘twas HEAVEN that they saw

Swirling all around

While down below their feet felt solid ground

Then earth would quake and mountains roar

And from below did lava glow

From where this fiery light did flow

Some did wonder, none did know

Some thought the end it did foretell

While others said it must be hell

And where are those that thought these thoughts?

Just crumbling stones

that like uncovered dusty bones

Do tell of life once lived, now gone

Like ghosts that refuse to go,

Though minds may die

Ideas do grow

And even now though worlds apart

Ideas long parted from the womb

Live on and leave us at the tomb

As Achilles loved Queen Penthesilea

only as he slew her

Mankind’s love for Mother Earth

barely ever knew her

It’s now too late
